Abstract
The dynamic behaviour of a low alloy structural steel has been investigated under different experimental conditions. Taylor tests, hat-shape tests, dynamic tensile tests and plate impact tests give experimental data in a strain rate range from 102 s−1 to 5·106 s−1. Comparisons between elastic limits and yield stresses in compression and in tension are discussed. It is found that this steel presents a rate dependent behaviour. Experimental data are utilized in a companion paper on the numerical simulations.
