Abstract
The authors present results of experiments when a primarily close-packed (without gaps) package of aluminum plates was loaded by oblique shock wave in the supersonic regime. After shock-wave loading, a joining of the explosive-welding type is recorded at the contact boundary of aluminum plates. Theoretical explanation of the plates joining effect and of the wave-like seam shape taking into account the Kelvin – Helmholtz instability appearance on the contact interface is offered.
