Abstract
The dynamic behavior of ultrafine-grained (UFG) and coarse-grained (CG) commercially pure aluminum was investigated at strain rates ranging from 3×10−4 to 3000 s−1 at temperatures of −50, 22 (RT) and 80°C. Constant strain rate tests in tension were used to determine the apparent strain rate sensitivities of the materials, while the instantaneous strain rate sensitivities at low strain rates were obtained from strain rate jump tests in compression. Notable differences in both apparent and instantaneous strain rate dependences of the studied materials were observed at the tested temperature range.
