A high-explosive driven experiment to compare the reflected Hugoniot and the release adiabat curves of Ti-6Al-4V alloy from a 52 GPa shock state

Abstract
An experiment has been performed with an explosive device in order to compare the reflected shock Hugoniot and the release adiabat curve of Ti-6Al-4V alloy from a 52 GPa shock state. For this purpose, impedance matching method and progressive acceleration of free surface technics associated with electronic chronometry and simultaneous DLI and VISAR interferometry are used. We find that the release adiabat curve first lies below the reflected Hugoniot in the (P, u) plane, then crosses it around 20 GPa, and finally lies above it for lower pressures. An analysis based on the effects of material strength on the release adiabat is proposed to explain these results.
